This is due to designers more recent initiative to find alternative, sustainable sources of materials, and therefore there is an importance for them to understand their core properties and values.
Materials play a huge part in the design world of the not-so-distant future. For example, designing a wall in your home will not just consist of selecting a colour, but you will be able to specify its function; from smell neutralisation to noise reduction.
