The Collaborative Design Hub project is in action to create a postivie working environment within Birmingham City University’s 2020 Conservatoire site’s main atrium. My clients are five design students that have specific working environment needs.
The plan is inclusive to all, including disability access in the form of ramps and additional space for wheelchairs.
The designs intitial functional concept involves modern and futuristic technology influences with the following three main functions in mind: productivity, collaboration and personalisation. The atriums more decorative element is inspired by my clients cultural backrounds, and the iconic and repetitive forms and materials found in their home country’s architecture.
The calming and organic feel to the space is created using natural materials and the use of abstracted light. The manipulation of both atrificial and natural lighting becomes the main featurte to the atrium, allowing light to fill the entire space regardless of the time of day.
