The Mindfulness Project is a response to the Department of Education’s quest in promoting children and young people’s emotional health and wellbeing and their plans to provide support to students using the teachings of mindfulness.
This space will be designed for primary school students who require additional support outside of the classroom. The hospitality based interior spaces’ purpose will be a combination of work and play, providing a safe space for children to deal with their problems.
The interior finds a balance in order to meet the spaces’ purpose, by being extendable and moveable, to allow both activities to occur, as well as being able to accommodate a variety of amount of visitors.
Activities that the space will host are, 1 to 1 light therapy sessions, group conversations, mental health talks, yoga classes, creative tasks, standing computing, as well as having designated self-reflective and calming zones.
A cool toned colour scheme creates a soothing atmosphere throughout the space. The design also takes advantage of the sites natural light sources to fill the space with positive energy.
The Mindfulness Project will be situated in Birmingham’s renovated Custard Factory, due to its’ evaluated mass potential found in my site analysis; from being a buzzing creative and digital district to having appropriate transport links for students.
